As Jim Hodgson, prepare a written report to Al Johnston regarding your recommendation as to the acquisition of Lincoln Inc. Follow the format guideline from Appendix A of the course outline when preparing your written report. the case is Maxmillian Corporation (pleaes find the attached file for reference) All case write-ups are limited to four pages of text, including the executive summary, and a maximum of five pages of supporting spreadsheets, tables and graphs (known as exhibits). You should take the perspective of an external consultant and write a case solution in a report to the decision maker(s) such as the Board of Directors, CEO or CFO. The written report must be typed with one-inch margins, double spaced, with font size of at least 10-points or larger. Executive Summary (1 page) Always begin your case write-up with a short executive summary which should not exceed one page. The purpose of the executive summary is to provide a busy top-level executive or decision maker a summary of the key issue(s) that the company is facing in the case, the suggested course of action and the key assumptions involved in deriving the course of action. Note that key assumptions are not numerical estimates. All such estimates should be deferred to the relevant exhibits. The executive summary can be written in point form provided that the each point can convey a complete thought. Case Analysis (2 – 3 pages) Be specific and clear when writing the analysis. Use headings and/or sub-headings in order to you organize your thoughts. Under your analysis, state all alternative courses of actions, the strengths and weakness of each alternative and the reason(s) for the final recommendation. As no recommendations are perfect, you will also need to state the limitations and/or the negative side of following the recommendation in which the decision maker needs to be aware. Avoid elaborating too much on the numerical details in this section. Rather, refer the numbers in the exhibits in order to maintain the clarity of the analysis. Exhibits (maximum 5 pages) All supporting figures, charts, spreadsheets, tables etc may be attached as exhibits. Label all exhibits clearly and all assumptions and formulas used to derive the figures in the exhibits should be obvious to the reader. Exhibits should also be referenced in the analysis section as they are needed to support your arguments. Format the exhibit so that it can be read easily without using a magnifying glass. When preparing tables or spreadsheets, the rule of thumb is that the table/spreadsheet should be able to stand alone: i.e., they could be read by someone without reading the text and the reader can discern exactly what they should learn from the table or spreadsheet.
