Rhetorical analysis first draft

For this assignment, you will be completing a rhetorical analysis on the documentary Long Gone Wild which can be found by clicking on this link Long Gone Wild | Kanopy. To begin the assignment, watch the documentary and take notes on the rhetorical strategies that William Neal uses to make his argument. Then you will create an analysis paper that explains whether you felt the argument Neal makes is effective.

Activity Objectives

This activity is designed to support the following Learning Objectives:

1. Identify and analyze thesis statements in nonfiction texts as models for their original work.

2. Present clear, reasoned, well-supported, and clearly-organized thesis-driven argument essays.

3. Compose, edit, and revise essays at the sentence, paragraph and essay level to demonstrate the conventions of standard academic American English.

4. Analyze the rhetorical situation, including the importance of purpose and audience and the use of rhetorical appeals and rhetorical strategies, in popular and/or scholarly texts.

Your analysis should be 2-3 pages long, double spaced in MLA format with 1 inch margins all around the paper. The font should be 12 point Times New Roman font and should include the correct headings. To review how to create an MLA paper, please read the following information: General Format // Purdue Writing Lab

Your analysis needs to explain the argument being made in the film and you need to evaluate the argument by analyzing the director’s use of logos, pathos, ethos, and other rhetorical strategies discussed in class such as the purpose, audience, style, and fallacies. It should not be a summary of the film, but a commentary on how effective you believe the author is in presenting their argument. For instance: Does the film seem biased or is it presenting the argument by addressing multiple viewpoints?

For this paper, you will not need to include a works cited page or parenthetical citations. We will cover these MLA specifics during the next Unit. The importance of this paper is to determine how well you can analyze an argument. The first draft of the paper will need to be completed with at least 2 pages (bottom of second page).

After you have completed the first draft, you will be assigned two student essays to peer review. The directions for the workshop will be found on the next page.

*Please note, all essays are checked by plagiarism checker. Any papers that come back with more than 20% copied words will receive a deduction in their grade. Please review the course Plagiarism policy.

Week 3

Probability is very important to healthcare researchers.

How does probability help us to evaluate the accuracy of statistics and to test the Hypothesis?
What is the differences between Frequency Probability and Subjective Probability?

Picot

The purpose of this assignment is to write a review of the research articles you evaluated in your Topic 5 “Evidence-Based Practice Project: Evaluation of Literature” assignment. If you have been directed by your instructor to select different articles in order to meet the requirements for a literature review or to better support your evidence-based practice project proposal, complete this step prior to writing your review.

A literature review provides a concise comparison of the literature for the reader and explains how the research demonstrates support for your PICOT. You will use the literature review in this assignment in NUR-590, during which you will write a final paper detailing your evidence-based practice project proposal.

In a paper of 1,250-1,500, select eight of the ten articles you evaluated that demonstrate clear support for your evidence-based practice and complete the following for each article:

Introduction – Describe the clinical issue or problem you are addressing. Present your PICOT statement.
Search methods – Describe your search strategy and the criteria that you used in choosing and searching for your articles.
Synthesis of the literature – For each article, write a paragraph discussing the main components (subjects, methods, key findings) and provide rationale for how the article supports your PICOT.
Comparison of articles – Compare the articles (similarities and differences, themes, methods, conclusions, limitations, controversies).
Suggestions for future research: Based on your analysis of the literature, discuss identified gaps and which areas require further research.
Conclusion – Provide a summary statement of what you found in the literature.
Complete the “APA Writing Checklist” to ensure that your paper adheres to APA style and formatting criteria and general guidelines for academic writing. Include the completed checklist as an appendix at the end of your paper.
Refer to the “Evidence-Based Practice Project Proposal – Assignment Overview” document for an overview of the evidence-based practice project proposal assignments.

You are required to cite eight peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.

Response to Kyla

Hello, my name is Kyla, and I am a BSN to DNP PMHNP student. I moved to Florida last year and currently work as a psychiatric nurse in an acute inpatient unit. I will also attend Health & Psychiatry for Psychiatric Management II clinical this semester. In my free time, I enjoy baking, traveling, and walking my two senior dogs. Psychiatric medicine has always been my passion, and I feel grateful I can continue my education in an often overlooked field. I look forward to continuing my learning alongside my classmates in the coming months!

Study Design

Experimental research occurs when independent variables are modified with a subsequent change in dependent variables resulting in a measurable hypothesized change (Turner, 2020). The modification of the independent variable is often termed an experimental intervention, which often entails the introduction of a new behavioral, environmental, or pharmacological agent which sparks change (Turner, 2020). In experimental research, control and experimental groups are randomized to reduce the generalizability of the results (Turner, 2020).

The primary difference in quasi-experimental research is the lack of randomization when determining control and experimental groups (Turner, 2020). However, this also makes these studies less expensive with less required resources for conduction (Siedlecki, 2020). Additionally, these studies are beneficial when determining causation when experimental research may be unethical to conduct (Siedlecki, 2020).

Non-experimental research, also referred to as “observational” research, includes studies that examine participants in their natural environments (Chew, 2019). Some common study designs utilized in non-experimental research include cross-sectional, case-control, cohort, and comparative effectiveness studies (Chew, 2019).

Cause and Effect

To determine cause and effect, three primary conditions must be met to identify correlation versus causation. First, the cause must occur prior to the effect (Coleman, 2018). Moreover, it must be related to the effect. Finally, there must be no other reasonable explanation that may explain the cause-effect relationship (Coleman, 2018).

One possible scenario that would not allow a researcher to determine cause and effect would be the examination of storks in relation to the number of babies born. As Coleman (2018) mentioned, although the storks precede the birth of babies, it is unrelated and therefore would not meet this condition.

response to Luis Rod

Week 1 Initial post.

Hello Dr. Mills and classmates

It is a great pleasure to start this journey with you. My name is Luis A. Taboada Rodriguez; I am originally from Cuba, where I was awarded the degree of Licentiate in Education at the Higher Pedagogic Institute. I came to The United States 11 years ago. I live in Cape Coral, FL. I graduated with a BSN from NSU at Fort Myers (F.M.) campus in 2018, and I graduated, also from NSU, with an MSN (Nursing Education) last year. Currently, I am a full-time faculty at the F.M. campus. My background as a nurse is in Med-Surgical Telemetry and Operating Room. I see myself as a seasoned NSU professor in five years, and I am anxious to share the Ph.D. program with you. I have a beautiful family, and my backyard is my piece of paradise.

Cause and Effect

What are the major differences between quasi-experimental research, experimental research, and non-experimental research?
One significant difference between the research designs is that non-experimental research does not implement interventions. In addition, the non-experimental research does not establish a direct time order of the cause and effect.

Experimental and Quasi-Experimental research involves an intervention applied to some participants and a comparison group that does not receive the intervention. However, a significant difference between those designs is that quasi-experimental designs lack random selection and random assignment of the study intervention.

Experimental research randomly assigns participants to the group that will receive the intervention or to a comparison group that will not receive the intervention. The experimental design demonstrates that the outcome is related to the intervention. Therefore, it is the most influential research to establish cause and effect order.

Discuss the three major conditions that must be met in order to establish cause and effect.
The three major conditions that must be met in order to establish cause and effect are:

Covariation: The process of establishing a relationship of cause and effect between the variables

Temporal precedence: The process of establishing the cause occurs before the effect

No plausible alternative explanation: The process of establishing that there is some other factor that is causing the outcome

Next, choose one of these conditions and come up with a scenario that would not allow a researcher to meet this condition.
Covariation scenario:

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the shortage of nurses was a reality for many health institutions in the United States. The COVID 19 pandemic was the reason for the nursing shortage across the nation.

This scenario does not allow a researcher to meet the covariation condition since the shortage of nurses in the health system is determined by different factors. For example, high levels of burnout, baby boomers nearing retirement, and federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates may shut down critically needed care (American Nurses Association, 2021). Therefore, the shortage of nurses in the health system is an effect, so it is a variable not conditioned for the pandemic.
