A major premise of DBT is: “That BPD (borderline personality d/o) is primarily a dysfunction of the emotion regulation system; it results from biological irregularities combined with certain dysfunctional environments, as well as from their interaction and transaction over time.†(Linehan, 1993)
It is based on the bio-social therapy which postulates that biological dysfunction in emotional regulation combined with and invalidating environment creates pervasive emotional dysregulation.
