Two opportunities that exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy-making are membership in professional nursing organizations and involvement in grassroots advocacy. However, these opportunities come with various challenges, including limited time and resources, lack of knowledge and skills in policy development, and resistance from policymakers. This paper aims to explore these challenges and discuss strategies to overcome them. In addition, this paper recommends strategies to advocate for and communicate the existence of these opportunities, such as developing educational programs and partnering with other healthcare stakeholders.
