Grading for Discussions

Most of the lessons in this course include a discussion topic, typically in the form of a question that asks for your opinion or knowledge on a particular subject. Each of the discussions is worth a total of 35 points, which is made up of 25 points for your response to the discussion and 5 points each for your first two substantive replies to the posts of two of your classmates. To earn all of the points, you must specifically address the discussion topic and contribute to the continuance of the discussion with your classmates. Bear in mind that the instructor determines the points awarded.

A substantive response to a classmate provides a reactive statement regarding the classmate’s discussion post that clearly intends to continue the discussion. Responding with short replies, such as, “I agree,” “Thank you for saying that” or another quick and short message will not earn points. You do not have to post to every classmate, just two, so you can choose to respond to a posting to which you actually have a response to give.

Your original post must be posted by Wednesday by 11:59 pm Eastern time. Responding to two of your peers’ posts must be made by Sunday at 11:59 pm Eastern Time.

This assignment is pass/fail. If you complete the entire course and submit the course completion certificate into Canvas, you get 100. If you do not, you get a zero. There is no partial credit.
