Capstone Discussion

QUESTION: How would one define business intelligence (BI)? Identify and briefly discuss a real-world application of BI?

 Notes :

Each week please post an original reply to my discussion question by 11 p.m. Wednesday evening Eastern Time (ET). Include at least 250 words in your reply. Indicate at least one source or reference in your original post. You can use your textbook or current research articles. Please see the rubric for information on how I will assess your discussion post.

Also, post a reply to one of your classmates by thursday evening by 11 p.m. ET. Include at least 125 words. Add to the discussion. Do not just say, good job, way to go, etc. Your discussion question responses should reflect an understanding of the situation and the reading materials. Please see the rubric for information on how I will assess the reply to your classmate.

Information Technology Management

You will be the IT Manager to improve the performance of the airport’s passenger processing system. The new airport will have lees employees and faster process timing. New IT system is to make the Airport more efficient and more secure. The new advanced IT system will replace the boarding-pass, ID control personnel with advanced IT System. The passenger will walk through a passage surrounded with cameras and other remote readers. The passenger will not interact with any officer at the airport. There will be no direct human interaction at the airport. The passenger will walk through a passage surrounded with cameras and other remote readers. Each customer will be given and RFID bracelets when they enter to the airport.

Airport already has 5 Terminals. Therefore, 5 new sections are going to be build (all passengers will be passing through these sections). First step, passenger to the get the RFID bracelet at the automated kiosk, This ATM type machine has face recognition cameras, finger-print reader and connection to DMV and IRS to authenticate the passenger and update the Airport database. This is the only step where passenger will stop and wait for the machine to put the RFID bracelet on his/her wrist.  Then, passenger with RFID bracelet never stops until seating in the aircraft.

One Centralized database will record and authenticate each passenger in the airport terminal.

Question 1: Develop the Project Life Cycle (PLC) for this particular case. Explain what your team will do in each stage of the PLC for this new Airport case. You will be writing collection of logical stages maps the life of a project.

Question 2: Develop the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for the execution of the Project. Explain what your team will do in each stage of the SDLC for this new Airport case.

Application Life Cycle

Despite its data-intensive nature, much of the global health care  delivery community has yet to convert to fully digital HIS Applications  for managing information. Significant challenges exist across the entire  delivery continuum for converting to HIS Applications, not the least of  which is having a process. Software initiatives involving the  development of a complex system such as an HIS Application are best  constructed within the framework of a system life cycle.

Explore the Internet for information on software initiatives and  system life cycles,

as can be found at the following Web sites:

And, research some of the roles and skill sets that are useful to an HIS  Application process, as can be found at the following Web sites:

Consider the cycle of selecting an HIS Application including the  selection process itself, implementation and training, and maintenance.  Choose two of the following questions to answer for this discussion:

  • What are the roadblocks that hinder HIS Application adoption?
  • What are the various types of personnel that are required  within each stage of the life cycle? Assess the skill sets and roles  that are required to bring value to an HIS Application development  project.
  • Why is input from members representing the clinical,  technical, financial, and management layers of the organization  essential to the process for upgrading or migrating to a new system?  Which group do you consider to be most responsible for blocking an HIS  Application implementation (i.e., the physicians, nurses, IT team,  management)? Why?
  • Why should there be an ongoing examination of an HIS  Application versus moving to other applications that are newly developed  or marketed?
