WK3 Assignment

DEMYSTIFYING RESEARCH, BIASES AND OBJECTIVITY MYTHS, AND MISCONCEPTIONS
Similar to emotional management, you will want to stay in tune with yourself and your new identity of researcher. You bring your whole self to the research experience, your ways of knowing, your ways of being, how you experience the world. The totality of your experience is activated within the research process. Thus, your strengths, curiosity, skill set, and quest to contribute new findings are all present. But so are your baggage, biases, and imperfections.

As a researcher, you are responsible for managing your own biases and being aware of how they may function within your research process so that you may adopt an objective perspective. The expectation of a researcher is that they will place their focus on being a capable researcher and aim to contribute value to the research conversations happening within their domains of interest. This is a big job, and you want to be sure you stay afloat while doing it.

In this Assignment, you reflect on your relationship to research and what you think about your new identity of being a researcher.

WEEKLY RESOURCES

TO PREPARE
Think about your relationship to being a researcher and convey what initial thoughts come up for you. Specifically, identify what you find difficult about researching and the research writing process. Consider difficulties that have come up in coursework assignments and readings. Also consider conversations with peers and faculty and experiences in other learning domains, such as residencies or external work or community environments. What do you find difficult about the research process specifically?
Then, review the article in the Learning Resources titled “Researcher Self-Care in Emotionally Demanding Research: A Proposed Conceptual Framework,” and aim to engage your initial thoughts more critically.
BY DAY 7
Compose a 2- to 3-page critical reflection on your initial preconceived thoughts about conducting research and being a research writer.
Aim to dispel your initial thinking by revealing your myths, assumptions, and/or hardships on researching and research writing.
Identify an aspect in your specialization that may be difficult on which to acquire research. Explain why it may be difficult to locate research on that area.
Next, prove that you can find difficult and obscure research on this area in your specialization.
Take a screenshot of the research you found. Attach the screenshot to your assignment submission and explain the process you went through in attaining it. Be sure to note if you learned anything from this process.
Demonstrate how this skill set could function for you in the future as a social work professional and an agent of positive social change.
Support your claims with research and adhere to the most recent version of APA documentation.
