1. Over the course of this program, my attitude towards including aspects of health literacy in my teaching practices has undergone a significant transformation. Initially, I viewed health literacy as an optional component, merely an add-on to my lessons. However, as I delved deeper into the course material and engaged in discussions with my peers, I came to realize the critical role that health literacy plays in empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health.
I began to understand that health literacy goes beyond the ability to comprehend written information. It encompasses a broader set of skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. I recognized the importance of equipping individuals with these skills to enable them to navigate the complex landscape of health information and effectively participate in their own healthcare decisions.
As a result, my attitude shifted towards actively incorporating health literacy principles into my teaching practices. I now strive to assess the health literacy levels of my audience and tailor my teaching methods and materials accordingly. I present information in a clear and concise manner, avoiding jargon and complex terminology. I also encourage active participation and interaction, allowing individuals to ask questions and clarify any uncertainties they may have.
