As an advanced student in a PhD program, I have had the opportunity to work effectively as part of an interprofessional team and reflect on my own individual performance within the team. The experience allowed me to understand the dynamics of collaborative practice and the role I played in contributing to a positive team environment. In addition, I have gained insights into a leadership practice that supports collaborative practice and effectiveness within an interprofessional team. I will also discuss with my preceptor one objective that defines how I have integrated or will integrate the competency of interprofessional team effectiveness into my practicum experience.
Firstly, I will reflect on a time when I worked effectively as part of an interprofessional team. This experience occurred during a research project that involved professionals from diverse backgrounds such as medicine, nursing, and psychology. The goal of the project was to investigate the impact of a new treatment approach for patients with chronic pain.
Within the team, I played the role of a researcher and data analyst. My responsibilities included collecting and analyzing data, as well as contributing to the development of research protocols. I worked closely with other team members to ensure that data collection was consistent across different sites and that data analysis methods were robust.
To contribute to a positive team dynamic, I actively participated in team meetings and discussions, sharing my expertise, opinions, and insights. Additionally, I will continue to develop my leadership skills and practices, focusing on those that support collaboration, teamwork, and effectiveness within interprofessional teams.
