They plan to use cluster sampling by selecting a few classrooms within the school and including all students in those classrooms. Cluster sampling involves random selection of clusters (e.g., classrooms, schools), and then all individuals within those selected clusters are included in the sample. This approach may be appropriate for this research proposal as it allows for variations between classrooms and examines the impact of the teaching methodology on a group of students within each cluster. However, it is essential to ensure that the selected classrooms are representative of the entire elementary school population to enhance the generalizability of the findings. Without appropriate randomization of the clusters, the sample may not adequately represent the population and may introduce bias. Therefore, while cluster sampling is suitable for this research proposal, attention must be paid to the random selection of clusters.

In summary, appropriate sampling is vital to ensure the validity and generalizability of research findings. In our research proposal, stratified random sampling is considered an appropriate approach as it allows for comparisons within relevant subgroups of high school students. The anticipated sample size is around 200 students. Upon analyzing the sampling approaches of two classmates, it was determined that Classmate A’s convenience sampling approach may introduce bias and limit the generalizability of the findings, while Classmate B’s cluster sampling approach is potential, but attention must be paid to the random selection of clusters to enhance representativeness.
