One of the issues raised by the graduate nurses described in the video that I have chosen to discuss is skill mix. This issue was evident from the conversations and discussions within our group, as well as in the selected literature.

Skill mix refers to the combination and allocation of different healthcare professionals based on their skills, knowledge, and expertise (Buchan, 2002). It is a critical factor in determining the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare teams, as it directly impacts the quality of patient care and outcomes. They shared instances where they felt underutilized and restricted in their scope of practice. This led to a general sentiment of frustration and dissatisfaction among the group.

The literature also highlights the importance of providing appropriate skill mix for graduate nurses to enhance their professional development and improve patient outcomes. It emphasizes the need for organizations to create supportive environments that allow for the full utilization of the skills and potential of graduate nurses (Grealish, 2012). It is crucial to provide them with opportunities to practice and develop their skills under appropriate supervision and guidance.

Firstly, graduate nurses may feel undervalued and marginalized if they are not given opportunities to utilize their skills and contribute effectively to patient care.
