Evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing has significantly improved patient outcomes in several areas of nursing practice. Two areas that have seen vast improvements through the implementation of EBP are the prevention of pressure ulcers and the management of pain. These advancements have been supported by various studies, which have had a significant impact on patient care.
Pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores, are a common problem among patients who are immobile or have limited mobility. These ulcers can have severe consequences, such as infection and delayed wound healing, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. One study that exemplifies the impact of EBP in preventing pressure ulcers is the research conducted by Padula et al. (2017). The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a pressure ulcer prevention program in a skilled nursing facility. The intervention included the use of a pressure ulcer risk assessment tool, appropriate repositioning techniques, and the implementation of a multidisciplinary team approach. The findings of this study demonstrated a 33% reduction in the incidence of pressure ulcers after the implementation of the prevention program. This significant reduction in pressure ulcer incidence highlights the positive impact of EBP on patient outcomes.

The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different analgesic strategies for postoperative pain management. The findings demonstrated that a multimodal analgesic approach, which combines multiple analgesic agents targeting different pain pathways, resulted in improved pain control and reduced opioid consumption compared to traditional opioid-based regimens. This study has had a significant impact on patient care by emphasizing the importance of using a multimodal approach in pain management. As a result, I have incorporated this approach into my nursing practice, ensuring that patients receive a combination of analgesic modalities to optimize pain control while minimizing opioid-related adverse effects.
