Title: Factors Affecting Patient Outcomes in Hospitalized Diabetic Patients: A Systematic Review

Introduction:
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that affects millions of individuals worldwide. The management of diabetic patients in hospital settings poses unique challenges, as these patients often have comorbidities and require individualized care. Understanding the factors that influence patient outcomes in hospitalized diabetic patients is crucial for improving their overall care and optimizing healthcare resources utilization.

Problem Statement:
Despite a growing body of research on diabetes, there is a paucity of evidence that comprehensively examines the factors influencing patient outcomes in hospitalized diabetic patients. Existing studies often focus on specific aspects, such as glycemic control, discharge planning, or patient education, without providing a holistic understanding of the topic. Therefore, through this systematic review, we aim to identify and analyze the primary determinants affecting patient outcomes in hospitalized diabetic patients.

Objectives:
The current study aims to address the following research objectives:

1. Identify the various factors that impact patient outcomes in hospitalized diabetic patients.
2. Analyze the relationship between each identified factor and its effect on patient outcomes.
3. Determine the most significant factors influencing patient outcomes in hospitalized diabetic patients.
4. Provide recommendations for healthcare professionals and policymakers to enhance patient outcomes in this population.

Methods:
A systematic review of the literature will be conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The review will include studies published in English from 2010 to the present. Four electronic databases, namely PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and Scopus, will be searched using a combination of relevant keywords and MeSH terms related to diabetes, hospitalization, and patient outcomes.

Study Selection Criteria:
Inclusion Criteria:
1. Primary research studies conducted on hospitalized patients with diabetes mellitus.
2. Studies focusing on patient outcomes, such as mortality, length of stay, readmission rates, or complications.
3. Studies examining factors that influence patient outcomes, including but not limited to glycemic control, diabetes education, multidisciplinary care, and discharge planning.
4. Studies published in peer-reviewed journals.

Exclusion Criteria:
1. Studies not conducted in hospital settings or with non-diabetic patient populations.
2. Studies focusing solely on pediatric patients or pregnant women with gestational diabetes.
3. Review articles, editorials, conference abstracts, and non-English publications.

Data Extraction and Synthesis:
Two researchers will independently review the titles and abstracts of all identified citations. Full-text articles that meet the inclusion criteria will be retrieved and assessed for eligibility. Discrepancies between the reviewers will be resolved through discussion and consensus. The relevant data from eligible studies will be extracted using a standardized data extraction form, including study characteristics, population demographics, interventions, and outcomes. The quality of each included study will be assessed using appropriate tools, such as the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale or the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool.

Results:
The data extracted from the included studies will be synthesized and presented in a narrative format. Factors influencing patient outcomes will be categorized and analyzed. The strengths and limitations of the included studies will be critically appraised, and the overall quality of evidence will be assessed. Sufficient homogeneity of the results will determine the feasibility of conducting a meta-analysis.

Conclusion:
This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors impacting patient outcomes in hospitalized diabetic patients. By identifying the most significant factors, healthcare professionals and policymakers can develop targeted interventions and strategies to improve patient care. The findings of this review will contribute to evidence-based practice and may guide future research in this field.
