The trend I have chosen to discuss in this assignment is the use of electronic health records (EHRs) in healthcare. EHRs have become increasingly prevalent in recent years and are now used by many healthcare organizations as a means of storing and accessing patients’ medical records in a digital format. The potential impact of EHRs on nursing practice is significant, as they offer numerous benefits such as improved patient care coordination, enhanced communication between healthcare providers, and increased efficiency in documentation and record keeping.
One of the key legal considerations related to EHRs is ensuring compliance with privacy and security regulations, particularly the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the United States. EHRs contain sensitive personal health information that must be protected and accessed only by authorized individuals.
