This approach recognizes that coaching is an ongoing process, and it highlights the importance of addressing barriers to ensure successful coaching outcomes. Four significant barriers to effective coaching are the use of power, self-image, knowledge, and problem-solving. In this paper, one strategy will be suggested for each of these barriers based on peer-reviewed articles and examples from my own practice setting.

The use of power can be a barrier to effective coaching, as it can create an imbalanced relationship between the coach and the coachee. To combat this barrier, one strategy is to promote a collaborative and empowering approach to coaching. This approach focuses on shared decision-making and mutual accountability between the coach and coachee. For example, a study conducted by Mansberger et al. To address this barrier, one strategy is to cultivate a supportive and non-judgmental coaching environment. The coach should create a safe space where the coachee feels comfortable expressing their concerns and fears. A study by Day et al.
