Module 2 focuses on performance, productivity, and rewarding teamwork. Based on your understanding, discuss the following. Based on the required articles, please do the following: Define ‘team productivity.’ How successful does a team have to be to be considered ‘productive’? What conditions have to be in place for a team to be successful?  Who is responsible for each of these conditions? Describe how teamwork can be designed to minimize the threat to productivity. As a manager, If one of your teams is very productive, what rewards are available to reward the team? Please describe how you could classify types of rewards and tell when each should be used? (Example, monetary rewards vs. non-monetary rewards) (two examples of a non monetary reward are a simple thank you, and a preferred parking place.)

Team productivity can be defined as the overall output or performance of a team in achieving its goals and objectives. It encompasses the collective effort and collaboration of team members to produce results that meet or exceed expectations. In order to be considered productive, a team must consistently meet its targets, deliver on time, and achieve high-quality outcomes.

The level of success required for a team to be considered productive varies depending on the specific context and expectations set by the organization. However, generally speaking, a team can be deemed successful if it consistently achieves its performance targets, demonstrates effective collaboration among team members, and contributes positively to the organization’s overall goals. It is important to note that productivity is not solely based on quantitative measures, such as output volume or revenue generation, but also on qualitative factors, such as innovation, customer satisfaction, and team cohesion.

Several conditions need to be in place for a team to be successful and productive. Firstly, clear and well-defined goals must be established, ensuring that team members have a shared understanding of what needs to be accomplished. Effective communication and coordination among team members are crucial, as it enables the exchange of ideas, provides clarity, and ensures that everyone is aligned towards a common purpose.

A supportive and inclusive team culture is also essential for productivity. Team members should feel valued, empowered, and encouraged to contribute their expertise and perspectives. Additionally, having a diverse set of skills and experiences within the team can enhance problem-solving capabilities and innovation.

Responsibility for creating these conditions lies with various stakeholders. The team leader or manager plays a crucial role in establishing clear goals, providing guidance and support, and fostering a positive team culture. However, team members themselves also have a responsibility to actively participate, communicate effectively, and collaborate with one another.

To minimize threats to productivity, teamwork can be designed in a way that promotes efficient and effective collaboration. This can include implementing structured communication channels, establishing clear roles and responsibilities, and leveraging technology tools for information sharing and coordination. Regular feedback and performance evaluation can also help identify and address any potential issues that may hinder productivity.

As a manager, there are various rewards available to recognize and reward a highly productive team. These rewards can be categorized into monetary and non-monetary incentives. Monetary rewards include bonuses, salary increases, profit-sharing, and performance-based incentives. These types of rewards are often used to recognize exceptional performance and motivate team members to continue their efforts.

On the other hand, non-monetary rewards focus on intrinsic motivations and can include recognition, praise, certificates, additional time off, or opportunities for personal and professional development. These rewards aim to acknowledge and reinforce positive behavior, enhance job satisfaction, and foster a sense of accomplishment. The choice of rewards should align with the values and preferences of the team members and should be tailored to their individual and collective achievements.
